BREAKING NEWS: Senate Passes Bill Protecting Disabled Persons From Discrimination

The Senate in Abuja on Thursday passed a bill that will legally protect persons with disability from discrimination. Sponsored by Sen. Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman (PDP-Kogi), the bill seeks to integrate such persons into the society and establish a commission for persons with disability. The bill, titled ‘Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Bill, 2014′, prescribes a fine of N1m for corporate bodies and N100,000 or six months imprisonment or both for an individual who contravenes the law. Sen. Adamu Gumba (PDP-Bauchi) presented the report of the Senate Joint Committee on Sports, Social Development and Women Affairs on the bill. Child-bride, Wasila Umar, accused of killing her husband and three of his friends while injuring many others after she served them poisoned food, in Kano, says she regrets her action. “Mine was a classical example of youthful exuberance; it dawned on me shortly after that it was a joke taken too far to resolve a forced marriage question”, Wasila, 14, said. The killings happened only 17 days after their marriage. You’ll Not Believe What Customs Officials Found In This Driver’s Bus [See Photo]

A bus loaded with cartons of 30,000 pieces of live cartridges but concealed with tubers of yam and bags of yam flour was on Tuesday, March 10 been seized by the Nigeria Customs Service. But the customs officials working along Saki-Ago Are, led by Superintendent of Customs A. Okoi, proved that they were well-trained, as their eagle eyes caught the conveyer of the unwholesome products while the men alleged to be the owners fled on sighting the customs officials. Speaking during a press briefing, the Area Controller, Mr Richard Oteri, said that the driver of the bus with registration number KW 286 SHH was intercepted in the early hours of Monday, March 10 in which the live cartridges were discovered. The driver, Adegoke Abdulrahman, was also arrested.
