Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, Ikorodu Area Command, Lagos, has arrested a Baale’s son for allegedly stealing a motorcycle belonging to an indigene of Saki, Oyo State, who resides in Bayeku area of Ikorodu. VGN Acting Area Commander, Olaiya Johnson made the arrest, weekend, but later handed the suspect to the police in Igbogbo Division. According to eyewitnesses account, the suspect, who was simply identified as Lawal, was said to have scaled the fence of the house where the motorcycles were kept. Pandemonium broke out, weekend, in the densely-populated Ajegunle area of Lagos State, after some members of Odua Peoples Congress, OPC, engaged policemen in Tolu Police Division in a gun duel over the release of a suspect. A suspected member of OPC was shot dead in the process, a passer-by hit by a stray bullet, one policeman shot and several others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the incident which paralysed commer-cial activities in the area. Two British nationals were among 14 people arrested on suspicion of attempted bribery in connection with an alleged plot to steal oil from a pipeline, Nigeria said. The head of the Joint Task Force (JTF) of military and police in the oil-producing Niger Delta region said the Britons allegedly tried to bribe a senior commander to facilitate the theft. Oil theft, or “bunkering”, is a major problem in Nigeria, which is Africa’s leading crude producer and exporter. The practice is said to cost the country some $6 billion (4.3 billion euros) in revenue every year, although the government is accused of exaggerating the extent of the problem to cover up embezzlement. Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) yesterday arrested a 34 years old man  with 120 grammes of heroin hidden in his anus at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, (MMIA) Lagos. The suspect, Mr. Ulelu Ugwumba Michael was apprehended during the screening of passengers on Qatar airline flight on his way from Pakistan. The Senate in Abuja on Thursday passed a bill that will legally protect persons with disability from discrimination. Sponsored by Sen. Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman (PDP-Kogi), the bill seeks to integrate such persons into the society and establish a commission for persons with disability. The bill, titled ‘Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Bill, 2014′, prescribes a fine of N1m for corporate bodies and N100,000 or six months imprisonment or both for an individual who contravenes the law. Sen. Adamu Gumba (PDP-Bauchi) presented the report of the Senate Joint Committee on Sports, Social Development and Women Affairs on the bill. The Chief Accountant of Home Science Association School, Ikoyi, Lagos has been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defrauding 92 students of the school of N13,164, 855. 50-year-old Adetoye Adegoke was arrested by operatives of the special fraud unit (SFU) and arraigned in court on a four-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence and stealing. According to the police, Adegoke reportedly used his position as the accountant of the institution to forge the school management’s bank teller and stamp to collect school fees from the students unauthorized.
